This nut case Representive from Montana:
Dear Representive Hale,
I think you're a dumb ass. First off let me tell you a little something about my family. A little over a year ago, my brother was hit by a guy who was driving drunk. He was wrapping his work on an Illinois highway and was out of his work vehicle. A 24 year old man driving on the highway drove through the barrier and hit my brother. Luckily, my brother's life was spared. Instead of dying, my brother got away with losing all the toes on his left foot, severely breaking both legs, spent time in surgery to put pins and rods in his legs, had to have skin graft surgeries, and had to have physical therapy all because some guy was driving drunk. If you had it your way, every dam drunk driver in your state would have a clean slate more or less after five years.
You know what, I'm sorry that dui laws are hurting your business. Have you ever had to stop and think that maybe you might lose your brother? Have you had to see your son, daughter, brother, sister in the hospital with his stub of a foot in sealed bubble to help it heal? Have you ever been hit by a drunk driver? I bet you haven't. Right now, I am beyond pissed at you. I don't blame you for operating a bar. It is the responsibility of those driving to stay legal. What I can't believe is that you're willing to make it easier on them to get behind the wheel.
I tell you what, if I was one of the people that lived in your part of Montana. You would not be getting my vote.
**** I talked with a friend about the issue and I've calmed down. I just think all too often laws get written that allow for criminals to get off. I don't' want to take liberties away from anyone, this is sort of me venting. I see this proposal as a way of letting drunks drive drunk.
