Internet Addiction, Do I have time to read and write?
When you find something that you enjoy, it’s easy to get addicted to it. You crave it, and you can’t have it, then it drives you nuts. It’s real easy to get caught up in the Internet. There is an endless array of things to do. I know that I use to spend hours on the Internet. A lot of it was spent in chartrooms and in reading and typing up email. Now a lot of my time is spent looking at blogs, typing up my blog posts, and thinking up new blog posts. Someday, I hope to have a nice following behind my blog. It’s been worth it. The time spent each day writing and brainstorming gives me a chance to relax. For the most part, my posts aren’t very deep. Some posts are better than others, and some perhaps are lame. I have that, I learn from other bloggers. I know have a routine that I use for creating my posts. Largely, it revolves around paper and pen. It’s focused on a notebook that is always around me.
Unlike Ethan’s notebook, my notebook is actually written or partially written posts. I do have another one that I jot down possible topics. Then to make matters even more confusing , I schedule my posts. They rotate through the week. Occasionally, I shove ideas to the side. Sometimes, life throws you something that just needs to be expressed. By using my notebook, I get a chance to do a rough draft of each post. Should I lose the idea while working with it in the notebook, I can switch to M.S. Word. Once the article is written in Word, then I can take through grammar checker and spell checker. The blog can take a half hour to an hour of my time each day. Not to mention, the time spent doing research. I mainly use research for when I do my animal and plant posts. The facts, that I put out on my blog need to be as factual as possible. I guess you could say that the blog does take up some of my time.
Now, I won’t say that the internet rules my life. My hobbies take time each week too. My animals have to be feed and watered. My plants need to be watered. I have to be up at church each week on Tuesday. Honestly, a large part of my blog work is done off-line. My animal and plant posts start off like any other posts. I begin with a small paragraph and then hit the books. My reading is not affected by the net. If anything is affected by the internet, it would be my writing.
Yeah, my personal writing may be slightly affected by the internet. Still, writing letters isn’t a strong point for me. I always end up stock piling emails till the weekend. I suppose it’s my own laziness really. I have friends, that I would die if they ever got a letter from me.
The time, that I used to spend chatting has been cut back. I still chat on occasion, but not for hours on end. I suppose that the blog cuts into my chat time, but not by not. I don’t even call people on the phone all that much. I do however enjoy hearing from friends and talking with friends. Again, there are friends that I think would love to hear from me. The fact that, I don’t use the phone has nothing to do with the internet.
It’s true, I’m crazy about being away from the blog for any extended period of time. I’ve really got into a schedule. I make a point to try and get my posts done before 7:00 p.m. I don’t think it’s the internet that takes my time. The computer is where my time is spent period. I really do not want to be on the net any longer than necessary.
